Start with the same viewer.
For YouTube competitor analysis, pick channels that answer the same questions or serve the same audience as yours. A huge channel in a different subject is usually less useful than a smaller channel whose viewers could plausibly watch your next upload.

A million views can be routine on one channel and extraordinary on another. For long videos, CreatorHat compares views per day with the channel's recent median. That gives you a starting point for finding a subject or angle worth examining.
Views per day is an average since publication, not a live count of views earned today. Channel-page values use rounded public views and ages, so treat the comparison as approximate. The recent upload sample is not the channel's entire history.

The first video earns more views each day. The second is more unusual for its own channel. That makes the second worth watching closely: is it answering a specific question, testing a product, or explaining something the other recent uploads did not cover?
The multiplier cannot tell you why it worked. A news event, an external link, or a change in audience interest may explain the difference. Watch the video and look at the surrounding uploads before borrowing the idea.
Write down a question you can answer better.

Compare the actual videos.
Read their titles, inspect their thumbnails, and watch the opening. Write down the promise each video makes and how it delivers. Public stats cannot reveal their click-through rate or retention.

Check the search language.
